It’s evident that as humans we get injured and it’s likely that the students in your yoga class have injuries. How often do you hear someone complaining about their shoulder, their knee, their hips, their back and so on? I’d say it’s pretty often and we could probably list people we know with the injuries they’ve had. You might have experienced some injuries small, large, past or present yourself. It is our human nature to want to feel comfortable and we can best do that by knowing how to take care of our bodies and train around an injury.
Understanding the nature of injuries, the healing process, and effective strategies to navigate training while managing persistent discomfort will dramatically empower your practices whether you are training yourself or leading others through a practice.
Key Topics:
What is an Injury
How do we Recover from Injury
Common Injuries
Exercises and Positions to avoid
Tissue Capacity and Change
Application to yoga, fitness and general movement

This course gave me confidence in navigating a yoga class full of people who are all dealing with their own unique limitations. It can be a scary thing to train someone who is injured, they're putting their trust in you and the last thing you want to do is make their injury worse. Raf educated us on some of the most common injuries so that we could be aware of what people are experiencing, and how we can do our best to create/guide people through a class that is designed for safety. He also helped us develop the skill of thinking critically/on the spot about how we could modify or change movements to better suit people’s limitations. We also discussed what is within our scope as a yoga teacher in relation to dealing with injuries. I now feel confident to draw lines with clients, recognizing that a group class is not a one on one session, and that I am not a physiotherapist. I am, however a yoga teacher that has been equipped to read the room and give my clients the best yoga class for them. Raf's extensive knowledge in anatomy, and intuition in movement was very beneficial in this course and will allow me to provide safe and inclusive classes to clients!

It gave me a different perspective on injuries. Our nervous system controls our range of motion, and by slowly progressing a movement and sending a safe signal to the brain, we are able to achieve a broader range of motion. The class definitely help me in giving cues.
