Confessions of The Yoga Asanas
Teacher: Sydney Mayer
Anatomy, Professional Essentials, Training & Teaching Techniques for Practice, 30 Hours
Escape the prison of boxing yourself into a picture perfect pose. Learn your purpose & intention of the pose, to set yourself free!
I’m not afraid to say it outloud that I think there are some big concerns around how the yoga asanas were taught and understood historically, which has trickled its way to social media and still in classes today. The yoga poses were developed and experienced as one size fits all, according to what teachers knew at the time. Different body types weren’t acknowledged and it was made clear to try and manipulate your body into how the pose is “supposed to look” at whatever cost.
The truth is, that each body is unique down to the bone and every pose is actually not meant for every body… so instead of manipulating the body, we manipulate the pose. Instead of looking at a pose and trying to identically align into it, we deconstruct the pose, uncover what it’s guilty of, forgive the body for what the ego has told it and reconcile with what we’re really trying to achieve.
If Yoga is for every body, then these yoga asanas have some confessions to make. Together let’s acknowledge our true intentions of the practice of asana, so we can steer clear of the “prison” we thought we were in, trying to fit into these poses.

Live Yoga: The Flow Of Life
Teacher: Sydney Mayer
Professional Essentials, Training & Teaching Techniques for Practice, 15 Hours
In our life we experience the effects of the constant changes and movements of events, circumstances and obstacles unfolding in front of us. If one were to be constantly ruffled and affected by each complex movement, we’d constantly be falling from our feet to the ground, experiencing deeper wounds each time. Being easily stirred by unplanned realizations of life’s advancement is as if an extreme gust of wind was ever-pushing into us as we try to step forward. Even though this might sound extreme, we might actually be falling into this way of going about our life. Consider how you react to unexpected events whether they are positive or negative. Do you usually have an automatic reaction? Do you avoid the negative and grasp tightly onto the positive?
Living yoga is learning how to navigate the flow of life and being resilient against its challenges. How To Rest: Restorative Yoga & Meditation
Teacher: Sydney Mayer
Professional Essentials, Training & Teaching Techniques for Practice, 15 Hours
The world runs at a fast pace and relies heavily on continuously producing outcomes and often pushing ourselves to our capacity limits. We’re encouraged to learn more, to earn more and to generate more success. The demands of living in our society today also places a pressure on our ability to produce and provide, often in a way that exceeds our limits and competencies. At the end of the day we can only handle so much, we can only handle what we know how to handle and when we overtake our limit and approach navigating something beyond our competency with pressure over our heads, it leads to stress. An unbearable amount of stress that leads to burnout, fatigue, disorientation, lack of motivation, reduced focus and challenges with maintaining our health.
Learning how to rest is how you begin the journey of restoring the mind & body against the never ending challenges being thrown our way. What the body knows best, is what it does best. If the body knows how to push, take in and contemplate, that’s what it’ll do. It’ll continue to push, take and contemplate, leaving our minds full, busy and restless.
